In The Perfect Fraud, Ellen LaCorte tells two women's stories that eventually intersect, both involving deep secrets as well as elements of fraud.

First, readers meet Claire, living in Sedona, Arizona with her wonderful boyfriend Cal. Claire's mother has been calling and she's avoided answering. When she finally does, Claire learns that her father is dying and flies home, rejecting Cal's offer to accompany and support her. Claire's mother is a psychic, and believes that her daughter has inherited her gift. Though Claire works as a psychic, she has no gift and makes up what she feels her clients want to hear.

Next, we're introduced to a divorced young mother, Rena, with a terrible burden. Her small daughter Stephanie suffers terrible stomach problems that have been so far undiagnosed, despite regular visits to specialists and ERs. In desperation, Rena plans to take Stephanie to Arizona, where she's heard of a physician who might be able to help. Rena blogs regularly about her situation and has a large online support network.

Which one is the perfect fraud? A meeting of these two women becomes the catalyst for the revelation of secrets, some of which I had guessed by then, some not. The Perfect Fraud is an intriguing read.
