Kay Powell is a theatrical agent for animals in show business. At the moment she is bird sitting for her client, Barney – a parrot – on the set of his new TV show, Dead City.

Unfortunately, the star of the show is shot to death in his trailer. You've guessed it. Barney was the only witness to the shooting! Kay is forced to explain time after time that a parrot cannot hold a conversation. The bird will simply repeat words that it hears. Barney is repeatedly interrogated with no helpful results.

Kay is bird sitting her client because Barney's owner is bound to her bed with a very bad cold. Various members of the cast of Dead City are suspected of the crime but the murder cannot be pinned on any one person. Barney starts spouting words that keep the authorities leaping to make various accusations. Which leads the police nowhere, while scratching their heads.

E.J. Copperman's Bird, Bath, & Beyond (second in this series) is a really fun cozy. The author has a keen sense of humor, as well as being more than capable of writing a good mystery.
