Here's an unusual picture book, Smoot: A Rebellious Shadow by Michelle Cuevas and illustrated by Sydney Smith. The shadow is bored: 'If life is a book, then Smoot the Shadow has been reading the same yawn-colored page for seven and a half years.'

Smoot's boy 'never did anything wild', but his shadow dreamed of a life in color. So when he suddenly came unstuck from his boy, he 'hit the road.' And other shadows decided to follow their dreams too. Soon, Smoot starts to worry about the havoc he's causing, and helps the other shadows head home. But what will he do?

Children are natural rebels, so will appreciate this imaginative story about a shadow who seeks more out of life, for himself and his original.
