Sleep Like the Dead by Alex Gray is a thrill ride from first page to last. It takes place in Glasgow and its environs. DCI Lorimer serves with the Glasgow police. There's never a dull moment with the drug problem that exists in that old Scottish city, plus the gangs that hover in its perimeters.

Marianne Brogan is plagued by nightmares. No wonder, with that brother of hers who is deep in the drug trade. Billy has always been there when needed, but this time he is nowhere to be found.

The body count in this thriller mounts as Marianne ponders if the stalker who has been keeping her frightened beyond belief has disappeared. He's probably taking a break, will reappear and she'll have to move again. Surely Billy could help. But where is he when she really needs him?

Meanwhile, DCI Lorimer and his squad are kept busy trying to locate a killer a hitman is out there proving he can still shoot straight. But when he isn't paid for his latest job, he loses his sense of humor and vows to find the man who owes him for a job well done.

Let's not forget Billy Brogan. He unwittingly trusts someone to take him away from Glasgow. Billy is not the brightest bulb in the package. There's also the Egyptian, a good man who is out of his element but determined he won't give in to racists. Sleep Like the Dead is a good book.
