enie works for The Sheffield Post. She has an edge on other reporters, having an in with the local police chief. But she also has an addiction. She is a full-fledged alcoholic! She has been on the brink of being fired several times because of her drinking. At an AA meeting, she discovers an old friend who also fights the demon rum.
he works the story of the slaughter with all in her journalistic power, knowing that this might be her last chance to keep her job. It seems that all the people killed are members of the local rich and famous. Geneva works the story while at the same time trying to divest herself of a married man and trying to make a relationship work with an old and very dear friend. She seems to be accomplishing her goals when tragedy strikes. Her lifestyle changes as she struggles to overcome her grief.
t's a good plot with characters who seem to be anyone we could all know, with all their secrets and peccadilloes. The central crime is hard to accept, even in fiction. But it works and we get to know Genie. I imagine we will meet Geneva Chase again.
