I like Elise Gravel's amusing picture/chapter book series explaining the value of Disgusting Critters to us. Previous entries have covered The Rat and The Slug. Now she gives us The Toad, another generally maligned creature, but one that's very good for the environment.

The toad is introduced as a type of frog that lives on land and is drier, with shorter legs, stouter - and often weirder. It releases a toxin when threatened and has bumps (not warts) on its back. Toads eat pests harmful to crops, but some species are endangered or extinct because of pollution. Meet The Toad!
