A Junior Library Guild Selection, Tiger Boy is a beautiful, must read, illustrated chapter book for young readers aged about seven and up.

Adventure abounds for young readers as they delve into the Sunderbans of West Bengal where they will meet Neel. Neel loves his island home, his family, and his friends. He does not want to leave, ever. But Neel is the brightest boy in his school and has a real chance of winning the scholarship to a prestigious boarding school far away from his beloved home.

While Neel sets out to sabotage his chances for the scholarship, a tiger cub escapes from the wilderness preserve and must be found before her mother escapes too or before poachers find her. Neel, with the help of his sister and friends, sets out to find the cub on the island he knows better than the back of his hand.

All Neel knows is that he cannot leave the island he calls home and that he must find the cub and return her to the rangers who will be sure she gets back to her mother, thus continuing the line of an endangered species.

I thoroughly enjoyed curling up with this story of wilderness conservation and preservation, growing up, and taking advantage of education to help save an endangered land and animal.
