What happens when a big, juicy peach falls to the ground and six animals all think one of them should be the critter to take the first bite? Each animal comes up with a logical and clever reason why he or she should be the first to sample the peach.

As you read this delightful picture book you'll realize that it is constructed around elementary math concepts that relate to comparing, sorting, ordering and measuring various objects. For example, the giraffe says he is the tallest of the group so he should get the first bite of the fruit. The rhino counters by claiming that he is the heaviest animal so he believes that means he should be awarded the initial nibble.

The author shows his sense of humor when the smallest creature of all, the caterpillar, comes up with the best claim on the peach.

In addition to a very amusing story, you'll also find information on comparing and placing items in order as well as some activities that allow the child to practice this approach to creating order. This is an excellent way to focus attention on the skills used to compare, sort and measure objects.
