This picture book for youngsters five and up introduces 'those horse-ridin', fiddle-playin', book-readin', gun-totin' gentlemen who started America'.

You'll meet George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton, John Adams, James Madison, John Jay and the rest of the group who signed the Declaration of Independence that cut the United States loose from Great Britain.

After a brief introduction where he discusses the U.S. Constitution, Jonah Winter offers some fascinating information about each of the Fathers.

You'll discover physical characteristics (height, weight, shoe size), the jobs each man held, military service, education, hobbies, languages spoken, financial particulars (wealth, land holdings, slaves owned), notable achievements, and religious affiliations among other things.

A full page illustration of each man accompanies the page of biographical information and you'll also find a few of the famous quotes of each individual.

Some of the interesting tidbits you'll discover are that Patrick Henry was the first governor of Virginia and owned over 100,000 acres of land; and at John Marshall's funeral, the Liberty Bell was rung in his honor. Unfortunately it cracked and was never rung again!

There are lots of unusual facts about the Founding Fathers in this book that will interest those who love to collect trivia concerning American history. Adults will also find this a fun read.
