Rachel Gold is a St. Louis attorney. She knows how hard young attorneys must work to find their place in the judicial system. Apparently, one of these striving young people, Sari Bashir, has given up the task and committed suicide, jumping from a parking garage.

Stanley Plotkin is a genius who suffers from Asperger's Syndrome. He feels that Sari was murdered. Unable to read emotions from others' facial expressions, he uses sophisticated facial recognition software to help him in a social situation. Basing his findings on his system, he declares that Sari's death was neither suicide nor accidental.

Sari was Rachel's friend. She finds the police report of suicide hard to believe. She and Stanley investigate, to uncover a devious and sinister criminal enterprise, endangering them both. It seems to be escalating, involving surprising characters.

The plot is a very engaging one. I would like to meet Stanley. Isn't his system cool? I have read something of this and am intrigued. Face Value is a very good read.
