One day Little Bear looked out his window and saw a rainbow. Never having seen one before, he thought the sky was on fire. Bear's friend, Little Bird, said, 'Why, it is a rainbow. Come on! Let's go find the pot of gold.'

Bear grabbed his honey pot, filled it with water and ran out the door towards the rainbow so he could put out the fire. The rainbow ended in a tree so Bear threw his water on it. Soon the rainbow faded away.

Then Little Bird chirped, 'Look, Bear, I found the gold.' Sure enough, in the trunk of the tree was a hole with golden honey in it. Bear collected the honey and he and Little Bird went home. They had honey cakes for dinner and then went out for a quiet, nighttime boat ride.

Although one dimensional, Frank Asch's colorful illustrations will appeal to young children three and older. The story is rather simple too, but that's not to say young readers won't enjoy it. Sometimes the simple and most direct stories are the most effective.
