oung Lillian Kindred lives with her aunt on their farm near Tanglewood Forest. With her chores done, Lillian loves to explore the forest. But one day she finds herself in great danger ... while dozing under a tree she is bitten by a snake.

so good about the change and seeks the help of Old Mother Possum. Along the way she finds that the animals of the forest can talk and she can understand them!

his long chapter book is full of beautiful color illustrations by Charles Vess. Young readers, and older ones too, will enjoy this lovely folktale, full of problems and consequences, fairies, talking animals, and magic.
