W. Bruce Cameron, author of A Dog's Purpose and A Dog's Journey now brings his fans another heartwarming read in The Dogs of Christmas. Its hero, Josh Michaels, is somewhat of a canine's Scrooge - he's never owned a dog and has no desire to do so. Then, in the Fall, a neighbor dumps a very pregnant mongrel named Lucy on his doorstep before leaving the country.

Josh was already not a happy camper, his home littered with the belongings of Amanda, the girlfriend who suddenly left him. When Lucy goes into labor in the middle of a conference call with colleagues (Josh is a software consultant who works at home) he panics and rushes her to the vet. Sadly, Lucy suffered from malnutrition and her puppies are all stillborn. But when he gets home, Josh finds a box that was left in his truck while he was in with the vet - it's filled with newborn puppies.

Lucy nurtures them and they survive. Anxious about how to properly care for his new canine family, Josh calls the local animal shelter, and soon Kerrie shows up to help him. Of course you can see where this is going, but there are quite as many bumps in their developing relationship as there are in Josh's growing attachment to the new dogs in his life. But this canine Scrooge does quickly morph into a doggy Santa and earns special gifts for himself along the way.

Overall The Dogs of Christmas is a sweet, feel-good story. It makes the perfect stocking stuffer for anyone who appreciates dogs on your holiday list.
