A sixteen-year-old patient is told by her doctor that her brain scans show extreme damage to the cerebral cortex. He has studied hundreds of cadaver brains and only four show her type of abnormalities. According to his tests, her brain shows she could no longer be considered technically human. He calls her his first living monster.

The girl has no memories before she woke up in a rusted-out trailer surrounded by junked vehicles. She is identified as Annaliese Rose Gordon who disappeared from upper New York State, thirteen hundred miles from Oklahoma where she was found. Her parents arrive to take her home, but she does not recognize them.

Whoever this girl is, she refers to Annaliese's parents as the mother and the father and to herself as Anna. What happened the night Annaliese disappeared? Dex, the odd young boy who lives next door, has a disturbing video tape of the party she attended that night. Logan, the school's star athlete confesses that he is ashamed of his treatment of her and relieved she's alive. Her own chilling memories of that night are returning and they are not on the video.

Suspenseful and original, this is an excellent psychological thriller/fantasy that's impossible to put down. I look forward to reading more from this talented author.
