Detective Anna Travis has just been made Detective Chief Inspector of the Hounslow murder squad. When a familiar Old Bailey employee walks into the station seeking assistance in locating his missing son, Anna directs the man to the missing person's bureau.

Weeks later the case is sent back to Anna by the Detective Chief Superintendent who suggests this might he something she should look into. What follows is a curious investigation which features some interesting clues, like a pool of blood, but not hard evidence, like a corpse.

Working only her second case as DCI, Anna feels the pressure to get results, since everyone in the department is watching to see if she's up to handling the responsibilities of her new position. As the pressure mounts and the investigation doesn't turn up any answers, Anna herself wonders what's happening here and if perhaps she is in over her head.

The author of the Prime Suspect series, Lynda La Plante has written fourteen novels. This seventh Anna Travis police procedural, Blood Line, serves as an excellent example of why this writer is so popular in Great Britain.
