As this second Michael Vey adventure opens, a group of teenagers known as the Electroclan are on the run. Michael, his girlfriend Taylor, Ostin, and the rest of the Electroclan have escaped from Elgen Academy in Pasadena. On their way home to Idaho and trying to figure out their next move, they stumble into a trap laid by the Elgen to ensnare them.

The Electroclan use their powers to outsmart their attackers and continue on their way. But in a strange development, a cell phone is given to Michael - the voice on the other end seems to be trying to help them. All Michael wants to do is find his mother, a prisoner of the Elgen. The mysterious Voice helps the Electroclan locate her in South America, in the deepest jungles of Peru.

The Voice helps them get there, only to find out that there is more to the story. The Electroclan must also help stop the Elgen from taking over the world. Michael and his crew must break into a heavily guarded power plant, find his mom, and stop Dr. Hatch from executing his plans. But they are unsure if they can trust the Voice, which might be leading them into another trap.

Richard Paul Evans has a gift for writing a very imaginative story. He keeps readers captivated right from the start, all the way to the end. The book is full of attitude, humour, action and of course horror. This author paints a very vivid picture as he takes readers on an electrifying SF ride into a frightening future.
