Jacob suggests his own bedtime story when he asks, 'How Does Sleep Come?' His mother's answer gives vivid pictures that are both poetic and pleasing. For example, she likens fog, a butterfly, snowfall, and a cloud to the coming of sleep.

'Sleep comes silently. Like a fog that rolls into a harbor and shrouds the boats in misty gray, making a silence broken only by the clang of buoys.'

Sayle's illustrations are softly colored and relaxing, just right for the text. Together they make a nice, calming bedtime book.
