It's summertime and many of us would like to be at least a little slimmer. Now Harry Papas brings us his internationally bestselling diet book, Slimmer: The New Mediterranean Way to Lose Weight that addresses lifestyle and psychological triggers for poor eating choices, and includes meal-plans and over eighty Mediterranean recipes.

The author (a registered dietician) speaks from hard experience, having gained 110 pounds in one year and then lost it all and kept it off. His book is in three parts - a discussion of the Mediterranean diet and lifestyle; presentation of the Slimmer Program, meal plans and recipes, divided into three cycles of twenty-one days each; and psychological aspects.

He cites the 1960s Seven Countries Study that showed 'how healthy the traditional Mediterranean diet and lifestyle can be', and discusses what it involves, from ingredients (including Greek yogurt) to lifestyle choices like slower living and quality connections.

As in many other diet books, much of the advice reflects strong common sense. What I most liked in this one is the number and variety of mouthwatering recipes, from Salmon Salad with Honey and Balsamic Dressing and Pasta Salad Primavera to Easy Seafood Risotto, Grilled Chicken Pizza and Orange Banana Chocolate Crisp.

If you're planning on a slimmer - and healthier - summer, Harry Papas' Slimmer is a good place to start. Personally, I plan to start putting his recipes on my family table - they look yummy.
