Another volume for older children, this Read and Wonder book encourages the reader to explore his/her natural surroundings and observe some of the insects that might be found around the yard.

Although we don't usually realize it, there are some very exciting things happening in the insect world right beneath our feet. Ants are collecting food, wasps and bees are making their nests, caterpillars are at work nibbling away on plants, and ground beetles are helping keep gardens free of slugs and snails.

The illustrations in this book are a bit washed out and not as eye appealing as what you might find in other picture books, but the content is quite good. Hopefully after reading this paperback, the youngster will want to learn more about the insects he or she can find very close to home.
