The Chalice of Immortality brings Erica Kirov's MagicKeepers trilogy to an end. However, it is a fitting ending, and an exciting ride to get there.

While Nick loves being a magician, he is getting a little tired of studying magic. Excited to finally get a day off, Nick spends it with his dad and grandfather and gets them to take him to the shop where he first learned he was a Gazer. Unfortunately, the Shadowkeepers attack, and Nick's dad ends up hovering between life and death. Now the only thing that can save him is the Chalice of Immortality, a powerful artifact that has been the ruin of many men. Of course, Rasputin and the rest of the Shadowkeepers are after it too, so that Nick will have to use everything he has learned so far if he is to save his dad.

The Chalice of Immortality, and the whole MagicKeepers trilogy, is a solid middle grade read. Kirov keeps the action moving as Nick learns about himself and also some history (real and magical). She brings old-world charm to the glitz and glam of modern Las Vegas, and this really helps to keep the reader engaged.

While The Chalice of Immortality wraps up the MagicKeepers trilogy, I hope that Erica Kirov will still delight middle readers with her magical tales. It seems like this world of Russian magicians lends itself nicely to multiple stories, and perhaps there will be more in the future.
