It is a hot summer's night in a big city. Everyone is busy cooking, playing games, watching TV, and working on the computer. In fact everyone is much too busy. And then ... the lights go out!

Suddenly there's no electricity. There is a blackout. Nothing works at all. Out come the flashlights and candles. An eerie quiet descends over the city and the neighborhood. Without air conditioning, families go up onto the roof of the apartment buildings or out on the streets to cool off.

My gosh! Are those stars up in the dark sky? Yup. What's that noise down on the street? Why, it's an impromptu party. What fun!

Then the lights come back on. Soon everything returns to normal. Too bad. That was actually a lot of fun not having electricity for a while!

This unusual picture book for youngsters four years of age and older looks at how a city neighborhood is transformed when there's a blackout. That's not necessarily a bad thing either, since not everyone really likes normal or what it's like when everyone is so busy that don't have much time for one another.
