Celia West is the daughter of Commerce City's superheroes, Captain Olympus and Spark. All her life people have been in awe of her because of her parents, even though she never developed any superhuman abilities. Celia found it very hard growing up with superheroes as parents. The biggest thing she ever achieved was a silver medal at a swim meet when she was young. Being kidnapped by criminals seemed to be a daily occurrence, anything to get at her parents.

When she was a teenager she rebelled by turning to her parents' arch enemy, the Destructor, but even that looks like it will come back to haunt her. For many years afterwards Celia built her life up, going to college, obtaining degrees, and working as a normal person would. She kept her distance from her parents. But her job as a forensic accountant involves her in The Destructor's trial for tax evasion, and she is called to the stand as a witness. As secrets are unveiled, she finds herself being drawn back into the superhuman world.

I loved After The Golden Age. Fun and full of action, it was like reading a comic book without the pictures. What I liked most was its depiction of how it must be for kids to grow up with famous parents. Carrie Vaughn blends her characters in a masterful way and places them in a setting that is credible and well executed. Definitely recommended!
