Jones Cooper is an ex-police officer who is finding retirement challenging. When the current Chief of Police requests help on a cold case, Cooper agrees to consult. The twenty-year-old case involves a missing woman who was never found or proven dead. At the same time, a young mother wants Cooper to find her husband's ex-wife. He explains he's not a private investigator, as she thought, but agrees to look for the missing ex.

Willow and her mother Bethany are new in the Hallows. Willow's not happy to be there, but she wasn't happy in New York either. While walking in the Hallows Woods, Willow sees a man digging a large hole. When she runs he chases her.

All of these characters come together in a suspenseful psychological novel. Told in multiple points of view, it takes place in less than a week. Unger makes you care deeply for every character. Although it's sometimes difficult to follow the timeline when she jumps from one character to another, the tension of the novel is never lost.

Unger cleverly handles the multiple plotlines and pulls them together in a satisfying ending.
