Former cop Frank Behr now workings for an investigation company in Indianapolis. He prefers working for himself, but with his girlfriend about to give birth, needs the security of a salary.

One evening, during a drive-and-protect job, Frank and his client are ambushed in a parking garage; neither is hurt. Frank is too professional in his work to let that happen.

On reflection, he's not sure the failed hit wasn't a setup. Trying to delve into the background of the client and his business, he is stymied at every turn. His instincts keep telling him he was also set up, not just the client. This pisses him off.

He is sidetracked by what he believes are police and politicians' own agendas and their ilk and he's mad. When someone is butchered in his home, he sees red and determines he'll see this to the end – whatever that may be.

13 Million Dollar Pop is a thriller in every sense of the word. And bloody! With characters who have no sense of morals – except, of course, Frank and his girlfriend. We all read of psychopaths and tend to disregard them as recognizable and to be avoided. Could they really be hiding behind a normal guise, just waiting for the right incentive to strike out?

At any rate, David Levien has once again given his readers an exciting, heart-pounding read. A real page-turner. He is no novice with the printed word, having been a co-writer of blockbuster hits such as Ocean's Thirteen and Rounders.
