Kate Reilly is a fledgling race car driver trying to get a full-time ride in the American Le Mans series. A serious glitch in her plans occurs when she stumbles across a dead body. However, this death opens a spot for her in the upcoming races at Lime Rock Park.

The dead body proved to be a driver for whom she could substitute. Now everyone is going to believe that she did him in for his ride. Life suddenly gets very complicated, but she has a ride and is thrilled.

Kate feels she just has to find the killer to vindicate herself. But every time she questions someone, she puts her own life in jeopardy. What if she approaches the actual murderer? Is he going to tell her, 'Yes, I did it.' Or is he going to pile her body on top of the dead driver's?

I liked the plot. A good one with a great setting. Kate herself proves to be a plucky young lady – even keeps her cool when a father she never really knew appears on the scene. The mystery works well. But the story at times was too involved with the technicalities of racing. For a died-in-the-wool racing fan, this book would be a treasure. Unfortunately for me, the details intruded on the story.
