A Conflict of Interest is Adam Mitzner's first novel. Hard to believe as it holds the reader's interest from first to last page. At times, I wasn't sure where the story was going, which only added to the suspense.

Alex Miller is a thirty-five year old criminal defense attorney, the youngest partner in one of the most powerful law firms in New York City. So when an old friend of his parents approaches Alex to handle a legal case for him, Alex is curious as to why the man would opt for a young lawyer instead of a more experienced attorney.

Michael Ohlig is accused of concosting a brokerage scam that cost investors hundreds of millions of dollars. Ohlig is arrested and a trial ensues. Alex spends copious time and resources working to acquit his client. He just wants the truth and is forced to possibly circumvent the law to find it. His action could cause him his job, disbarment, and his marriage. The case is convoluted and precarious. Ohlig is arrested once again on an unrelated charge, which leaves Alex astounded.

Alex is faced with another truth he did not expect. One that not only will change his future but also his past.

A Conflict of Interest is a very good book. I could compare it to other attorney-powered novels, but my mother always said that comparisons are odious. This book stands on its own and I look forward to more from Adam Mitzner.
