In her Introduction to Gaia Warriors: The Fight is On!, Nicola Davies reassures us that change is natural and that 'we shouldn't be too scared by the fact that the climate of our home planet is changing now, and that we will have to change too, if we are to survive.' Her book explains 'how and why the earth's climate is changing' and introduces people around the world 'who are finding ways for humans to live without hurting our planet.'

Gaia Warriors is divided into three sections - the first explains the basics of climate change (including climate vs. weather, the greenhouse effect and global warming, how plant and animal species are reacting, effects on different human cultures, and carbon literacy); the second presents over a dozen Gaia Warriors and a wide variety of things they have done and are doing to make a difference; and the book finishes with an Afterword by James Lovelock, in which he warns us that 'Nobody ... can with certainty predict the world of 2030 and tell us how to live peacefully there.'

Lovelock ends the book with a more hopeful vision of a future 'when our descendants have evolved to become Gaia's brain' and defenders. The last page lists More Good Places to Get Information (both websites and books). Overall, Gaia Warriors is accessible, informative and nicely presented (interpersed with fascinating quotes, photos and charts) as it addresses a topic we all need to be thinking about - and acting on.
