When Temperance Brennan collected the remains of a body found long buried, she counted but then lost four finger phalanges! Which bones could help immensely in the identification of that body. Could Tempe really have lost these bones? Lost her concentration? Forgotten her forensic training? She is also accused of missing the cause of death of another cadaver. This is not like our girl who has got her act together. Is she losing her touch as a forensic anthropologist? By now, I'm sure you realize I am speaking of the series written by Kathy Reichs – the inspiration for the extremely popular TV serial Bones. As 206 Bones opens, Tempe has awoken to the realization that she is entombed somewhere, certainly not of her own choosing. As panic sets in, she finds she is bound hand and foot and in complete darkness. Then we are given a flashback to her very busy office and a new employee who seems to be finding Tempe's mistakes. As if that were not enough, she is being harassed by a neighbor who hates her cat, Birdie. Tempe and her significant other have broken their relationship. She is determined not to be hurt again but he is easing his way back into her life. Isn't anything easy? I am a devotee of Kathy Reichs' books and, as such, enjoy her TV show. This series is not for the faint of heart as it can be extremely graphic. I find it fascinating. I watched an autopsy one time, right up front across from the person wielding the knife. The human body is extraordinary and the information that can be gleaned from a dead one truly a wonder. This is a great series.
