With lyrical poetry celebrating each featured animal, and outstanding woodcuts by Holly Meade, this picture book will become a favorite story time selection of children four years of age and up.

As you page through the book you'll discover a lion, elephant, giraffe, zebra, rhinoceros, sloth, jaguar, panda, tiger, orangutan, kangaroo, buffalo, wolf and polar bear.

The short verses tell the child something about each animal's behavior or how it survives in nature. For example, the mighty buffalo has a 'short temper', the panda is an accomplished 'bamboo bandit', and the sloth is 'small and rather hairy'.

It's a collection of verse that introduces children to wild animals. Parents can turn this book into a learning situation by asking their son or daughter to identify each animal or formulate simple questions like, 'Which animal has a long neck?' or 'Which creature jumps from one place to another?'
