Basher and Green's no nonsense, straightforward book on chemistry begins with the basics and does a great job of the holding readers' interest. The introduction describes chemistry as 'the stuff the world is made from' and introduces eighteenth century chemist, Antoine Laurent Lavoisier.

Green's tight writing and Basher's simple, colorful illustrations make the secrets of chemistry approachable to all. Inanimate lab objects give first person explanations on the states of matter and the ways they interact. This book is a great refresher or introduction to the mysterious world of chemistry.

Chemistry: Getting a Big Reaction! includes a glossary, index, and an amazing pullout poster. It's part of the Back to Basics concept series created by Simon Basher. Other books include Math: a Book You Can Count On! and Punctuation: the Write Stuff!
