Here's a board book that features 18 pages, which is more than you usually find for a picture book of this nature. Billed as a concept book, there's no real text here, but each page showcases a word and illustration that relates to a circus.

Cut out windows allow the youngster to get a little glimpse of what the next two page spread holds. The words preschoolers will be introduced to include tent, clown, magician, elephant and jugglers. You'll also find slightly more complex word combinations like tightrope walker, trapeze artist and circus train.

In primarily black, red, and white, with touches of yellow and blue, the simple illustrations on the glossy, thick pages are attractive and should easily capture and hold a young child's attention.

My Circus might be an excellent book to use to introduce a very young child to books and the idea of story time. You'll have to create your own story around the core words and illustrations, but that is not necessarily a bad thing!
