Illustrator R. Crumb offers a whole new look at the first book of the Bible in The Book of Genesis Illustrated. Sticking mainly to the King James text, Crumb turns all fifty chapters into a graphic novel.

Crumb's illustrations capture the feel of the time period very well and help demystify some of the more confusing passages. However, whether intentional or not, they also highlight the parts that are repetitive and almost contradict one another. And though he tried, Crumb still did not manage to make the genealogies anything but boring.

All in all, R. Crumb's The Book of Genesis Illustrated is a noteworthy effort. Those looking for a different and interesting way to read the first book of the Bible will want to check out this volume.
