'Sun sets. Shoes shine. / Sunday best. Stand in line. / Hands entwined in the cold. / First ballet. Five years old.'

Thus begins a little girl's first trip to see the ballet. Along with her grandmother, the child is about to experience a breathtaking performance by a group of graceful dancers.

'Hours pass as dancers float. / Story closes. Final note. / Bow and curtsy. Audience stands. / Roses falling. Clapping hands.'

All too quickly the evening draws to an end, but the little girl in her green dress and red coat will never forget this magical and captivating outing to the ballet.

Youngsters two years of age and older may enjoy accompanying this little girl on her first trip to the ballet. And, who knows, this could well pique the curiosity of your child and result in her (or him) wanting to make a similar excursion.

If you are already planning a holiday outing to perhaps see the Nutcracker or Swan Lake, this picture book would be an ideal way of setting the tone for the afternoon or evening.
