We all have bad days - but when small children do, they can be quite a challenge as in David Elliott's Finn Throws a Fit!, amusingly illustrated by Timothy Basil Ering in a style reminiscent of Quentin Blake's work.

It all begins with peaches. Though he usually likes peaches, 'Today, Finn doesn't like anything' his doting parents - and dog - offer him. Finn is cranky, as shown by his actions and the thundercloud hovering over his head - which erupts into a full blown thunderstorm in the nursery!

This is followed by 'Lightning in the kitchen!' Finn floods the house with his cries, unleashes an avalanche with his screams, and kicks up an earthquake. He's one small but potent weather system that sends tidal waves through the living room, builds hurricanes in the dining room, and blows blizzards through the bathroom.

Of course, Finn's fit 'lasts until it doesn't.' The storms die down until it's all sunshine - and peaches - once more. Little ones will enjoy reading about the havoc that Finn causes in his household, and perhaps be reassured that they will be loved just as much as Finn is when their own small storms are over.
