Suzanne Rathbone's story of Odd Job Bob and Hairball: A Day in the Park (about a very special Gypsy Vanner Horse and his feline friend) is told mainly through Megan Coy's wonderful, lushly colored illustrations, that give the animals strong and attractive personalities.

Introductory text tells readers about Gypsy Vanners, horses with 'long flowing manes, dazzling tails and feathered feet' that once pulled the Romani people's colorful caravans through Europe. Odd Job Bob is a 'very special Gypsy Vanner' who loves to share adventures with his best friend Hairball, the stable cat.

In A Day in the Park, instead of keeping Odd Job Bob out of trouble as asked to do, Hairball aids and abets his friend. They make new friends together, Odd Job Bob gives children rides, and they share cotton candy, all unbeknownst to Odd Job Bob's owner, who finds them just where she left them after her shopping is done.

Note that all proceeds of this delightful not-for-profit book will help support therapeutic riding programs of the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA). Young riders and cat-lovers alike will adore it. They can find out more about the breed (and purchase the book) at
