Even though they haven't been that close, when Joe Hunter's brother goes missing, the former military operative is willing to do what he can to find his sibling. What Joe doesn't realize is that someone else is also looking for the missing man and therein lies a very serious problem.

Hunter has snatched Tubal Cain's favorite Bowie knife and Cain intends to get it back. The knife is part of a set of implements to which he is very attached. Cain has been using them to detach various parts of his victims after he's killed them.

Thus begins a chase across the southwest with Joe bringing up the rear trying to save his brother before Cain retrieves his knife and adds another part to his collection.

In this first of a planned series of thrillers, Matt Hilton fully captures the reader's attention with his new tough guy action hero, who has already been compared to Lee Child's Jack Reacher. Time will tell if that comparison is valid. At this point I'm not so sure it is but Joe Hunter is still an intriguing guy with some very interesting qualities. A talented writer with a strong sense of plotting, Hilton knows exactly how to get the most out of his protagonist in this debut.
