Author/illustrator Chris Wormell's Molly and the Night Monster looks at children's night-time fears from the point of view of young Molly who 'woke up in the middle of the night ...' as so many kids do, and began to imagine what might be creeping up the stairs to her room.

The picture book is beautifully - and spookily - illustrated in a blue that gives the feeling of the dim lighting of a house at night. Each double page shows the home's stairs and landing - and what Molly imagines appearing on them - to the left, with Molly reacting in her bedroom to the right.

She sure imagines some scary monsters - a crocodile, a brown bear, a huge hippo, a giant giraffe, an enormous elephant, and a nasty 'night monster come to gobble her up!' Brave Molly uses her monster-catcher, but what do you think she traps in it?

Molly and the Night Monster is a sweet story whose comforting ending makes it an excellent choice for little girls who suffer the night-time fears to which so many children are prone.
