The Dunderheads    by Paul Fleischman & David Roberts Order:  USA  Can Candlewick, 2009 (2009) Hardcover      Reviewed by Hilary Williamson This amusing book - somewhere between a picture book and a comic strip - opens on irate (and politically incorrect) teacher, Miss Breakbone, announcing to the class that she's never been asked 'to teach such a scraping-together of fiddling, twiddling, time-squandering, mind-wandering, doodling, dozing, don't-knowing dunderheads!' Of course her students rise to the challenge of this teacher who hates kids and loves to confiscate their prized possessions. This time she takes something precious from Junkyard. He calls on the class Einstein, who decides 'I'll show her what a few dunderheads could do.' He assembles his Mission Impossible team of classmates - Wheels, Pencil, Spider, Hollywood, Spitball, Clips, Google-Eyes and Nails - and they move into smooth, hilarious action. The Dunderheads is great anti-establishment fun for rebels of all ages as a bunch of resourceful kids outsmart their tyrant of a teacher.
