Doctor Laura Schlessinger, a licensed marriage and family therapist as well as New York Times bestselling author, lays out rebuttals to criticisms of mothers who choose to stay at home while raising their children.

Her newest book, In Praise of Stay-at-Home Moms, relates her personal experience. Initially, she was a happy SAHM; later, she was compelled to return to work. But that doesn't mean she quit her day job. She stayed home during the day with her children, and then worked other hours, or, took her children with her as she worked. She responds to comments such as: 'Your children need to be in day care for the socialization,' 'Being only a wife and mother is slavery,' and 'Career mothers make great role models for children.' Bunk, she says! And she backs it up with good arguments.

Schlessinger's book helps wannabe SAHMs with ways to approach husbands with the idea, as well as showing how marriages improve when moms don't try to 'have it all' all at the same time. Exhausted moms don't make delicious dinners or have time for romantic husbands or have the energy to spend time with kids. And, she says quality time without quantity time is unlikely to happen.

If you are nervous about taking that step, if your hubby needs a little more convincing, or, if you've just had it with the snide comments and want a worthy retort, In Praise of Stay-at-Home Moms is the book for you.
