Parents of very young children will certainly relate to this amusing story, told in verse, of a child who demands to be picked up and put down, almost in the same breath.

Depicted as adorable raccoons, this mother/child pair agreeably go through their day in a perpetual motion of up and down. It all depends upon the whim of the little one, and what she would like to show or request from her mother. Mama, of course, always accommodates.

'Please pick me up, Mama.
Sing to me and whirl.
Please put me down Mama.
See how fast I twirl!
Please pick me up, Mama.
Feed me soup with rice.
Please put me down, Mama.
Hand me cookies ... twice!
'

My five-year old daughter laughs aloud at this story, particularly when I read it quickly to replicate how often the little raccoon changes her mind about where she wants to be. Any book that provokes laughter in my children is one I will keep on my shelf.
