Every mom knows that sometimes children can be, well, horrid.

Children's author Francesca Simon not only knows that, she celebrates it. Simon is the creator of a wildly popular chapter-book series, Horrid Henry. The series is a bestseller in England and the inspiration of a hit TV show. Chapter books are now being introduced in the U.S..

In one of the first to be released, Horrid Henry Tricks the Tooth Fairy, Henry is consumed by jealousy when his friends each lose a tooth or two winning an all-important visit from the tooth fairy. Maddeningly, Henry's younger brother, Perfect Peter, also loses a tooth.

Candy gorging and tooth trickery don't solve the problem. But in the end, Henry gets his just desserts. (Sorry, no spoiler here.)

The stories are sweetly written and extremely entertaining. Illustrator Tony Ross expertly captures Henry's loveable mischievousness.

Each book has four easy-to-read stories. Once young readers finish with Henry's tooth-fairy trickery, they can move on to stories about Henry's appearance as a ring bearer in his aunt's wedding, the unwelcome visit of Moody Margaret, and the poor new teacher at Henry's school.

Each story has its own charm. This series does not disappoint and is sure to be a big hit here as well.
