Seventeen-year-old Tere Adams is unbearably shy. High school is a daily ordeal. She chokes when anyone speaks to her and is in constant fear of being called on in class. When the English teacher assigns a group presentation where each student enacts the life of their favorite author, Tere chooses Helen Keller.

In spite of her shyness, Tere daydreams about becoming a DJ. She loves music and knows enough about the music scene to start right away, which is what happens when her stepfather needs an intern for his popular radio station, SLAM FM. She steels herself to ask him for the job and he agrees.

Once there she becomes Sweet T, a name she'd already chosen for her life as a future DJ. Little by little her presence on SLAM makes itself known to Miami. On the air she is a self-assured radio personality with a sexy voice and quick wit. Everyone wants to know who Sweet T is, but as long as no one knows, Tere feels safe.

Although the fairy tale ending won't surprise you, Shrinking Violet won't disappoint.
