After an accident involving a drunk driver, tow truck driver Josh Warren's life is dramatically changed. Hailed by some as a hero, Josh has spent years trying to reach a settlement with an insurance company. He hopes to start his own business and use the money to provide for Savannah, the daughter he has never met.

Josh has struggled with a great deal of pain since the accident and the whole situation has caused tension with his parents, Annie and Nate. Josh has a good support system of online friends and the neighbors in his building (including an elderly woman and a couple with Down's Syndrome), though Josh's parents are not that supportive of his desire to gain custody of Savannah. Meanwhile, Savannah lives in New York City with her mother Maria, who uses her to panhandle for rent money. Will Annie and Nate ever accept the fact that Savannah is Josh's daughter? Will the settlement allow Josh to have the new beginning he desires?

Kingsbury has a talent for creating characters who are often imperfect and to whom it's easy to relate. Discussion questions and a web site reference are included with the novel.
