BookLoons
opened in Fall 2000 as a place for
people to connect to books of interest
to them. This site is against
censorship and book banning.
Reviewers read all the books described in Shelves and
Reviews.
However, Excerpt blurbs are based on the publisher's description
of a book.
We are always
interested in receiving review copies of published books. To send one, please contact
the Editor
for a mailing address (and see note below on
Review Copy Submission). We
usually publish a review within a few
weeks of receipt of a book. Our Reviewers
are individuals from all walks of life,
who love to read and have been
enthusiastically sampling their favorite
genres for decades. Each review,
along with the rating assigned to a
book, is an expression of the Reviewer's
individual opinion.
BookLoons is
associated with Amazon.com and
Amazon.ca. This
makes it easy to order a new or used book after
reading about it. BookLoons does not take or process
your order. This is done by Amazon and you pay exactly the
same whether the order initiates through BookLoons or on the Amazon sites. However, if you
start the order from BookLoons, Amazon pays a referral fee, which helps us to add content to the
site.
Privacy
Policy
BookLoons does not sell your personal information or share it with other people or companies. The single exception is that we provide a contest winner's address to a book publisher, in the case that
the latter sends the prize directly to the winner.
Addresses
(email and snail mail) that are submitted for entry in a contest, or
email addresses provided for a newsletter subscription are used only for those purposes, that is to contact winners and to email newsletters.
Teen subscribers to
BookLoons Teens eNews are
asked to obtain their parents' permission before signing up;
they can Unsubscribe
at any time.
We occasionally post emails of general interest in
Letters
to the Editor, with the first name of the sender
shown; whenever you email us, let us know if you do not want comments posted.
As is the case for most web sites, the server which
hosts BookLoons collects information
like date and time of visits, and the
Internet addresses from which the site
is accessed. We look at summary statistics in order to
understand trends like peak times, daily hits, and review
popularity, and to fine tune the
site. Individuals are not identified.
We also use third-party advertising
companies to serve ads when you visit our website. These
companies may use information (not including your name,
address, email address, or telephone number) about your visits
to this and other websites in order to provide advertisements
about goods and services of interest to you. If you would like
more information about this practice and to know your choices
about not having this information used by these companies,
Review Copy Submission
We often receive queries about review copies. If you would
like to submit for review a book that is not published by one
of the major publishers, then we need a paperback or hardcover
(though enthusiastic about the potential of e-book readers,
we're not equipped to review electronic formats). We also need
to look at an online excerpt, so that reviewers can determine
whether or not the book interests them. If you have any
questions about this policy, or wish to send us a book for
review, please contact Hilary
Williamson (Editor@bookloons.com). |
